Community based service record

In 2005, I co-founded a volunteer project to provide community based psychotherapy services for veterans returning from OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom) in Afghanistan and OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom). Many deployments were extended or reinstated.

At that time the Veterans Administration (VA) was not sufficiently funded or otherwise prepared to handle the scale of the mental health crisis of returning soldiers faced with re-integrating into civilian life.

With support from the VA and the Washington State Office of Veterans Affairs, the project’s therapists had multiple qualified trainings regarding military cultures, military-level trauma, traumatic brain injury, veteran suicidality, veteran families’ challenges, sexual assault suffered by female veterans and support for community-based veterans centers.

Training & experience

I have trained and worked to develop an experienced trauma informed practice. My principal methodologies stem from the work developed by Bessel van der Kolk and Richard Schwartz’ Internal Family Systems. You can refer to these trainings here.

I have served as a critical incident specialist for twenty five years.

Insurance

Essential to providing services to veterans, I am an in-network provider with TriWest Healthcare.
