The Kink Health Survey

It’s an honor (and a true professional learning experience) serving on the development team for the International Kink Health Survey (IHKS), to be released later this year. The sponsoring organization, TASHRA (The Alternative Sexuality Health Research Alliance) produced the first KHS (which was national in scope) in 2016.

Superb colleagues

It’s a great experience working with project leaders Anna Randall, DHS, LCSW, and Richard Sprott, Ph.D. There’s also a team of impressive, interdisciplinary professionals that I’ve been fortunate enough to join.

Tapping into old skills

My brief is to bring a kink-knowledgeable psychotherapist’s thinking to each survey question, particularly the newer or modified measures being added this year.

It’s fun to fall back on old skills that let me have some fresh research team experience. My B.A. in Political Science included training at the National Opinion Research Center. In early 1978, my first “real job” was at Home Box Office (HBO), where I was part of the first program and network research & development team.

Therapy with Kink-Identified clients

My 17 years of experience working with sexual and relational minority clients has been greatly enhanced by completing the two-part Innovations in Excellence in Therapy with Kink-Identified Clients – Advanced, offered by Drs. Randall & Sprott online. A fabulous dividend is to add nearly 40 therapists – many of whom I got to listen to quite a bit, to my network of referrals.
